cat litter tray alternatives…?
i NEED an alternative to a litter tray for my cat, the kitchen and bathroom of the house we’ve moved to are too cramped for the tray and it makes a huge mess in any other room.
she doesnt have a cat flap and getting one put in is not an option, we rent and landlord says no. she goes out and we have a big garden but obviously we’ve got to be around to let her in/out.
i know some people train their cats to go on the actual toilet, how hard is this to do (she’s 4 months), from somebody that has a toilet trained cat?
any other idea/options welcome…. thanks..
i didnt say it wouldnt fit, there isnt a convinient area for it to sit in, its in the way.
thanks for the helpful comment, how small is your brain.

use a boot tray under the litter box
sometimes we use a dishpan for the litter box itself, it is deeper so there is less mess, and it is more compact

to train your cat to go yo the toilet it takes about 1-2 months, you must move the cat box about 1 foot at a time in about 4 day intervals. then after doing that for about 1-2 months (once you notice your cat totally fine with following it) slowly move it to the bathroom. then tape it on to the toilet, the cat will hop up on to the toilet (on the cat box) and leave it there for about a week, then take a large pan and put it there and see if they’ll go in that, even though it’s not they’re usual cat box. leave that there for about 2 days. then simply take it away your cat should be fine with going to the bathroom on the toilet
p.s I could never figure out how to get my cat to flush lol
~hope this helped
A tray is what 16 by 12…… how small is you house
Newspaper?
Sounds like your in my house.. to small for any convenient place, cant cut a hole in the door.. cant be home all the time
heres the two options I came up with. I put a cat flap in a piece of plywood and installed that in a window facing the yard.. outside is a piece of 2×4 lumber with sisal rope wraped around it for a ladder to and from the window door..
Inside the house.. because it came to a point where I couldnt let the cats outside anymore ( stupid woman took them home as strays twice.. FROM INSIDE my Fenced yard)..I got a replacement closet door and put a hole in it,, and the litter box is in the closet.
As for the toilet thing. We taught a cat to do that years ago. Some cats do it, some simply will not. we used the kitty loo system that had a tray you put under the seat with some litter, then slowly remove the litter then punch a hole in the tray that gets larger over a few weeks… It worked great with the cats we had then, the only trouble came was when a room mates friend didnt know about the tray and used the john………..uhm it was funny.
Here is an idea:http://www.karawynn.net/mishacat/toilet.html
Good luck
I did a google search and found these out of many web sites on how to toilet train your cat.
I once had a cat that went on the toilet. My husband saw that one of my cats had to go. I was cleaning out the box at the time. He picked her up and just held her over the toilet and she went. I was amazed at what she did. From that day on she would always go on the toilet.

The LITTER KWITTER
http://www.litterkwitter.com.au/en/index.php
your cat needs to do its business in the litter tray – is part of nature, – a cat using the toliet is not .
in my opinion is just money making scheme trying to get you cat to use the toilet.
cat litter trays do make a mess but they need to be cleaned daily and and any extra cat litter which has been kicked out of the tray needs to be brushed up. My only suggestion is to get a bigger cat litter tray (if it can go in your other room) as this will stop your cat making such a mess around or get one with a rim – the worst thing you can do is get a small cat litter tray to fit in with your kitchen or bathroom because your cat just won’t have any room to do it stuff.
My fiance & I live in a rental unit & a cat flap is also not an option for us either.
So…I brought the Litter Kwitter off ebay about 12 months ago & got both my cats using the toilet within 3 months. It is very time consuming, as you need to be around when you change "stages" of the Litter Kwitter, to encourage your cat/s & to ensure they’re using it correctly. So if you’re a busy person who is rarely around at nights/weekends, then I wouldn’t recommend this option to you.
However – this has saved us so much money in kitty litter, time in cleaning the cats "toilet room" & it is much cleaner in general. No smells either
Pet shops sell the Litter Kwitter for around $100, however this one I brought on ebay was $50. Money well spent if you ask me!!
Good Luck with your toilet adventures!!
