how do i stop the older cats using the litter tray?
i hav a number of cats within my household, 2 of which are mine, these are both kittens and therefore need to use the litter tray, the problem is there are 2 of the older cats that wen my back is turned will use the litter tray, everytime i hav seen this i hav grabbed them before they can do there business and put em outside, but they always find a way as soon as my back is turned.
rite i hav 2 add to this, my house does not smell, the cats mostly use there toilets outside, i dont know where u live but it is the norm to hav the cats goin outside in no way is it cruel/harmful/nasty

they are going to use it to mark their territory no way to stop it
I’d put up with it until your kittens can go outside. Maybe restrict the older cats access, but that’s about all you can do.
You could put a litter tray in your garden (if it’s a private garden) to try an encourage them to use it, but I think peeing and pooing is a territorial thing for cats, so the older cats will want to scent the same area as the kittens!
Incidentally – you can tell who’s boss cat by noticing which cat leaves his poos uncovered!
The older cats need to go too. Why not break down and buy an extra litter pan or two. Would you elect to go out in the cold to a cold outhouse if there was a warm bathroom in your house? Cats are not that much different from people.
yell at the cat then call a vet
I take it you have the litter box for the kittens until you feel comfortable with them relieving themselves outside?
If that’s the case, just put up with the older cats using the litter box until the kittens are old enough to go outside. Other than that, the only option is to separate the kittens from the area where the rest of the cats come and go freely, thereby restricting the older cats’ access to the box.
You shouldn’t be putting them outside. That is irresponsible. Not only do they bother the neighbors but, they are subject to disease. You should get them their own litterboxes. A number of cats? Ew! I bet it smells bad in your house.
Naturally I had to answer this! My cat read this and conferred with the other cats in the house and here is what my cat told me to say!
Que Sera, Sera. Whatever will be will be!
All of the Cat-Gods here are house borne and litter rained and have a box per two Gods. All of the Gods are neutered. As for the whew…oder it is minimal…here’s why the litter product used is called Arm y Hammer High Performance…best of all it is natural cat-god litter…why you can even flush it down the toilet!
Cat-Gods like being pampered! So, here is how to switch over to help your cat-gods use the new litter!
Just fill the box 3/4 full with the new litter, then put a top layer of your old litter. Let your cat-gods use the litter until the next time you change the box. After one use, your cat-gods will LOVE you for it….’tis PURRR-fect!
Each Cat–God gets bathed once a month and their toe and finger nail trimmed. Each day they get brushed with a stiff bristled brshe and a slicker brush to get the lose fine fur…this helps elinminate fur balls and helps keep the Catty Shack Clean!
and, why, can’t they use the litter tray? what do they "go" in?
give the older cats a seperate litter tray .
Why you dont let the cats use the litter tray. its normal for cats do use them, doing the bussiness outside its fine but also having a litter tray is good too. Maybe get 2 litter trays but they still will use it there is no way they will stop using the tray. Sorry.
Please don’t make them stop, for if you do that you may make it impossible to ever keep them inside. Sure, now you want them to go outside and they can, but are you *sure* that situation won’t change, ever? Won’t ever want to keep them inside? If you teach them not to use the box, to fear it even (for you’ll probably have to be pretty forceful to un-train them), you can’t expect them to get back to using it again if you move, or if you give them away to someone else who wants to keep them inside. Cats use the box, it’s natural and it’s a good thing!
Just don’t put out the litterbox… put it somewere like int he garage if your cats don’t go into the garage.. put it somewere were your cat never goes and a room that has a door maybe..
