OKAY……….I know I’m gonna be the "odd man out", but this is what I have to say about this.
I feed my cats on top of my kitchen table ( one of their two feeding "stations" ) AND, about 4 feet away, on the floor next to a fish tank, is a large, uncovered litter box. I clean this box twice a day AT LEAST, and nobody gets sick ( animal or human ), and the cats do NOT have a problem eating near their box. They even have carriers on a shelf next to the litter box, where they sleep off & on every day.
So……….it really depends on your situation, and your cat. This is just what I do, at my house!
Hope this helps you with your decision. Good luck.
I would not suggest it, the fumes and the smell will make your food taste yucky. I would keep it in the bathroom before I put the litter box in the kitchen. The kitchen is the worst place for a litter box.
yes,but not if your cat eats in the kitchen then it wont use the litter tray, because cats hate eating and excreating in the same place.
not such a great idea. the smell well be in your kitchen and will be in your food and yuck. i have a cat and we put there kitty litter in the laundry room.
Yes, but you don’t want to. It stinks really bad and people wont want to eat at your house. I would suggest you have the litter in the bathroom or laundry room. oh, and make sure you clean it at least one every 2 day other wise your cat will stop using it.
If you intend to be religious about scooping it and use a good odor controlling litter like pine pellets, no problem. I have a covered litter pan in my kitchen in an out of the way place. It’s not real close to where I prepare food and as a breeder I clean it regularly to prevent disease and smell. Most people are surprised when they spot it because they don’t smell it.
For the rest of you that replied, if your cat has highly stinky poo, it may have some internal parasites that are causing the really bad or foul smelling poop. I suggest having the vet check out a sample.
Cat litter boxes smell horrible. Do you really want that around your food?
The best place for the litter box would be a laundry or mud room
It’s all about what you care about. My litter box is in the laundry room, which is connected to the kitchen, so it’s almost in my kitchen
Cats do prefer that their box is not in the same area as their food, so if you also feed the cats in your kitchen, at least put the bowls on the opposite side of the room from the box.
I would not keep it there. I’d keep it in the basement or the bathroom – a room where its easy to keep clean from the litter on the floor.
